Open meeting was held at:
Our Lady Queen of Heaven
Greier Hall
Spanaway, WA.
6:30 – 7:30 PM
The Board and 20 members were present.
An agenda and March 3rd meeting minutes were distributed.
- The March 3, 2019 meeting minutes were reviewed and approved.
Vickie Bisbee-Cornwall volunteered and appointed by the Board to be the secretary.
D.C. Grant provided an update on the Charitable Organization reassignment/re-designation project:
- He was able to reassign an existing non-profit corporation and state recognized charity. The reassignment cost is $70.00. The cost to file a new charity would have been $275.00 and there would have been a 30-day waiting period.
- Until the name of the new charitable organization is approved, he cannot open a bank account and deposit funds. He expects the name will be approved soon.
Outreach Communication Committee Update:
- Thom was able to get the shell of our new website built.
- He is working on the security part of the site.
- He is going to change our distribution list name to remove “Holy Rosary” from the description. There is still confusion about where and when we can use the name “Holy Rosary”.
- He will send out a message to let us know when it is up, running and available for use.
- For the website, he would like all of us to be ready to add an approximately 400 word description of who you are, what Holy Rosary means to you, and why you want to save it.
- Children of the Youth Group would like to create a video. Thom said that would be fine as long as, if they were using a phone, to hold the device sideways (landscape, not portrait).
- The Historic Tacoma website has listed Holy Rosary Church in a new category by itself. It is listed as “Threatened”.
- Thom would like any local email contacts for newscasters, media outlets, etc. that we could provide.
- Francine reached out to people that have quit the Holy Rosary parish and told them how much we miss and need them.
Francine heard that the City of Tacoma may do its own safety assessment on the church.
There was a suspicious “Go Fund Me” created and it collected $50.00 last week.
News from the “Quad”:
- Can we get banners and fund information to place around the church?
- Could we get a local Quad contact and see if we can get more information on how a Quad works?
- The cost estimate was originally $7.5 mm, and it just got rounded up to $10 mm. We would like complete assessments of the church.
- There are a large number of Catholic churches closing their doors. Is that the direction the AD’s is taking with our church? Can the Quad let us know anything about what the future plan is?
- How can we help the AD’s?
- We want to know when and where it is appropriate to use the name “Holy Rosary”.
- How much is the AD’s willing to co-operate with us to get the church doors back open?
Note: The collections and budget summary in the Holy Rosary Bulletin as of March 10, 2019 are 1) weekly budget needed: $6,964.00. 2) collected this week: $14,264.00. 3) needed YTD: $211,320.00. 4) actual YTD: $147,854.00. 5) deficit YTD: $49,202.00.
We would like to find answers from Deacon Fish and the AD the following questions within the next two weeks:
- How and when to use the name “Holy Rosary”.
- Do they have a time line of when they will decide the fate of the church?
- If we can raise the money to fix Holy Rosary, with they let us help?
Agenda for our next meeting:
- Communications with AD.
- Fund raising ideas.
- Create a Fund Raising committee.
- 501c update
Collection:
We collected $46.00. We determined that at this time all funds should be directed toward meeting Holy Rosary assessment goals.
Jon Carp led a closing player.
Our next meeting time and place is to be determined at a later date.
